Home Vinalhaven Lobster Fishermen Map

Vinalhaven, an island with 1250 year-round residents, is located 12 miles from the coast of Maine. It is reachable only by ferry, and has a single village situated at the harbor on the southern shore. It is one of the few remaining fishing villages in the United States, with 50% of the residents working directly in the fishing industry and most of the rest providing support services. Our position in the middle of Penobscot Bay provides unique access to some of the most productive lobster grounds in the world. Fishermen on Vinalhaven land more then five million pounds of lobster a year, in addition to crab, scallops, northern shrimp, and baitfish.
